I started writing poems and stories when I was in elementary school, just for fun. My grandmother always told me they were very good—grandmothers are such great fans!—and that encouraged me.  |

For fun I like to write humor essays. As a professional, I write articles and books about health care and business. |

Writing helps me solve problems. If I can't figure out what to do or if I'm worried about something, I write it all down. I find that putting things down on paper is really helpful to sort out feelings and to find solutions. |

I like to read a lot of young authors who have an edgy, humorous voice. I love southern writers, too. The settings and the dialect remind me of my childhood in the south. |

I love to go to the theater, especially small, community productions. I enjoy hiking, and last year I climbed Half Dome in Yosemite. It was scary and challenging, but the view from the top made it all worth it. |
